How Long Should a Water Heater Last?

Here is the best “guesstimate”.  Generally speaking, a gas water heater should last about a decade (maybe a dozen years if you are lucky).  With an electric model you may get a few more years of efficiency (up to maybe 15 years).  If it is anything beyond those numbers then your water heater is living on borrowed time!

Let us use an equation, because often times people wonder how long should the hot water continue to flow.  For example, if your water heater holds 30 gallons and someone in your home just took a 15-minute shower then you can anticipate that there is about 5 minutes of hot water left.  If YOU want to spend 15 minutes in the shower, then you need to wait about 45 minutes.

Nothing about water heaters is an exact science, of course.  What is a sure thing in Snohomish, WA is that Shawn Allen should be called if you need your water heater repaired or replaced.  That makes it really easy!  Snohomish and Seattle area residents have trusted Shawn for their plumbing needs for decades.  Give him a call at (425) 367-4744.

Changing Seasons…Changing Plumbing Needs.

This is not Denver, but don’t tell that to your plumbing.  It requires your full attention as winter approaches.  If you ignore potential plumbing problems during this changing season you could be looking at huge plumbing expenses.  If you observe the proper winterizing tips you can rest easily throughout the next 6 months.

Here are some Autumn plumbing maintenance tips –

1.  Insulate your pipes.  Freezing pipes will result in water everywhere.
2.  Look at the foundation of your home.  Water could leak into your basement.
3.  If you have a well, have your pump house checked.
4.  Don’t let your water heater give out in the middle winter.

Of course, that is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.  One way to make sure the job is done completely the first time is to call Shawn Allen.  Residents around Snohomish, WA have counted on this master plumber to do ALL of their plumbing winterizing and repairs for well over 30 years.  It starts with a phone call to (425) 367-4744 to have Shawn do your plumbing inspection for winter.
